Bolt the recent claimant of the world record at the 100m having smashed his country man Asafa Powell’s previous time of 9.76 . The record was lowered to 9.72 and it’s quite possible that we’ll see that record lowered in the upcoming Beijing Olympics , if everything goes as expected . If Powell , Bolt and Gay should make it to the Olympic finals in the event. Then we’ll have three of the six fastest men his history involved what has been usually described as the race to find the world’s fastest human.

And with the qualifying standards being so high it makes it a very tenuous situation for an athlete to qualify . With only the top three having to qualify and with only one alternate being taken. It places extreme pressure on the athletes hoping to make it to the Olympics. Track and Field still remains a showcase for the entire summer Olympics. It can be said that a great many for those attending that this’ll be the main highlights for the fans in attendance at the Olympic arena where the track events will be held. The US Olympic track and field team is hoping that they’re able to have a successful series wherein they’re able to usurp the success of previous teams. The US’s main competition in many of the sprint events especially amongst the men is expected to come from the Jamaicans and East Europeans in particular. It goes without saying that whatever success that can be garnered at the upcoming events in Beijing can be equated with the training and the facilities here that are amongst the best in the world. On campus university facilities beside the fact that also that many of the country’s elite track and field stars are now highly paid professionals. Many of them racing abroad at the most prestigious events across the globe. In Europe in particular where the most lucrative events are held , the top athletes are to be found racing each other for the acclaim and notoriety that’s afforded to those at the upper echelons track and field.

Tyson Gay the the American record holder in the men’s 100m at 9.77 . Gay broke the previous record held by former record holder and Olympic champion Maurice Greene in a preliminary heat . He won the finals itself in a wind assisted record time of 9.68 . However due to the fact that the wind was in excess of 4m per sec the time wasn’t ratified in order for the record to stand. Gay will now seek the double in the sprint events by trying to add the 200m title to his 100m title at the trials. The presumptive favorite in the event he’s favored to add that title with some considerable ease. picture courtesy of getty images/Matthew Stockman ………………

And the triumvirate being sent to Beijing must be considered a serious threat to for a clean sweep in the event. As thrilling as the events are and the wonderment that it has created for the fans of track and field. The sport here in North America no longer seems to attain the presence and excitement that it once had in the public’s persona and it clearly doesn’t seem to resonate. What coverage that’s gleaned is only minimal to say the very least. But once the events at the Olympics begin to unfold . You can rest assured that the world will be watching in awe of the spectacle that the events seem to create on a world stage. The Olympics as a sporting spectacle is perhaps the most widely watched sporting spectacle in the country . Most definitely second only to the audience for the major sporting domestic sporting event known to the world as the Superbowl.

Track and field is a sport that seems to resonate with everyone either at a young age or once they become adults. We can all remember the first time we may have gone for a jog or taken the task of hurdling or even making an attempt of throwing a discus or javelin. One way or another it may well have been either a pleasant memory or one of complete abject failure. But the attempt may at the time have been worth it. If only for the mere experience of having done so.
