Rohypnol The Drug of Choice …………….

Rohypnol The Drug of Choice

It’s strange and disturbing and it’s happening at an alarming rate but it’s something that’s overlooked by the public and press alike. Here in the state of Florida which has become the epicenter for college students once Spring Break comes around.

Female college co-eds let their hair down somewhat during Spring Break in Daytona Beach , Florida . photo appears courtesy of Orlando Sentinel / Hugh Jennings ..................

Here’s a rather disturbing fact , in the cities of Daytona Beach , Panama City , St Petersburg , Miami Beach and Fort Lauderdale over the past five years , there has been over 375 sexual assaults. Of those less than 36 have brought about or led to the indictment and prosecution of the defendant. Something of a minuscule number don’t you think ? If you think that is an alarming stat ? Then consider this , in large part those indictments came about because the District Attorney’s office in each wanted a plea deal in order to gain a verdict. Of those cases that did go to trial the defendants were found guilty with the overwhelming DNA evidence playing a part in the case being brought to satisfactory conclusion on the part of the prosecutors .

Florida sees rash of spring-break rapes ….

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla., March 17 (UPI) — Six alleged rapes in Florida have occurred during the first week of spring break, Daytona Beach police said.

One rape allegedly occurred in a men’s washroom at Ocean Center on Sunday, during which the victim could not get a good look at her attacker because he held her hair while he raped her, the Daytona Beach News-Journal reported. No one has been arrested in that incident.

Reported rapes usually are on the rise in March because of spring break, the News-Journal said.

“All of last year we had a total of 41 sexual assaults. Here we have six in one week,” said police chief Mike Chitwood.

In another incident, 26-year-old Donco Mitrov of Daytona Beach is accused of raping a woman who was drunk when he met her. He allegedly plied her with more alcohol and raped her twice in the hallways at a beachfront hotel, police said.

Mitrov was charged with sexual battery and released from jail on $20,000 bond, police said.

The other four rapes happened behind a beachfront restaurant, at another hotel, and one after a woman met a man at a nightclub and invited him to go with her, the police chief said.

What I find alarming about this all is that there are people out there wanting to excuse the inexcusable as it concerns Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger . As many of you may now well be aware, the Milledgeville PD and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation -(GBI) have halted their ongoing investigation for the time being. This came about because the alleged victim in the sexual assault for which the NFL player is the primary suspect has failed to attend an appointed interview with the investigating officers. Now we can attest to the fact the player has shown poor judgment but what is now clear is that people are still looking to defend the indefensible as it concerns the player. Is anyone really of the opinion that each and every allegation thus far is without warrant against the player ? How many times is it that Roethlisberger expects us to believe that each time the sex was consensual ? There are only so many ways that a cat can be skinned ! And there are only so many times that a lie can be spun in order to create the perception of truth.

Why the Spring Break Rape Total in Daytona Beach Will Keep Rising …

By David DiSalvo of Associated Content

The first official week of Spring Break was a violent one in Daytona Beach, where six rapes were reported in as many days. Bearing in mind that only a fraction of total rapes are reported to police, the actual number is unknown but no doubt much higher—and we’re only a week into the season.

Of the six reported rapes, all but one involved alcohol and/or drugs. Three of the victims were unconscious when assaulted. Only one person has been arrested so far.

A volatile set of factors combine in Daytona this time of year (and, of course, not just in Daytona). Take the impulsive and risk-prone tendencies of teens and early twentysomethings, combine with an atmosphere marketed as a massive free-for-all, and add generous amounts of alcohol and drugs—and you have a story that for many isn’t going to end well.

Daytona isn’t an especially safe city aside from Spring Break, but with the annual pilgrimage it becomes one of the least safe cities in the country. According to cityrating.com, the incidence of rape in Daytona Beach is 3.39 times higher than the national average. The occurrence of all violent crime is 3.09 times higher than the national average. 84 out of every 100,000 people in Daytona are raped annually.

The website Neighborhoodscout.com, which ranks how safe cities are around the nation, gives Daytona a 1 out of a possible 100. These statistics aren’t helped by the fact that during Spring Break, the normal population of around 66,000 swells by anywhere between an additional 100,000 – 200,000 people.

Last year, 41 rapes were reported to Daytona police during Spring Break. If the FBI is correct and only 37% of rapes are reported, then we can assume that more than 120 women were raped during Spring Break at Daytona Beach last year. All signs indicate that this year is going to be worse, and the victims are getting younger. One of the first six victims was 14 years old.

The NFL and the Steelers’ front office have been about as proactive in dealing with this situation as the government has been in dealing with the financial meltdown of the economy. Asinine utterances such as there’s ….” an upswing in productivity shows that the economy is in good health “. Well if that upswing is no more than one tenth of one per cent , then that can hardly be considered a healthy sign. But figures can be spun any way that you want it to be spun. NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell and his union counterpart NFLPA Executive Director DeMaurice Smith have remained ominously silent while this and under such disturbing behavior has gone on around the NFL. But what else ought we to expect from a league whose primary concern is to make money and very little else ? It’s not as they’ve ever viewed crimes against women committed by their members as something that warrants their undivided attention. The number of players within the NFL that we’ve either seen involved in cases of either domestic violence or sexual impropriety in some type of crime may seem minimal but it has become more common place than you think. Primarily because many of the incidents end being unreported or in a number of cases where it has gone to trial the defendant has either pled guilty to a lesser charge in order to avoid jail time. Somehow in some way when Goodell then deems fit to get involved he ends up making the situation seem somewhat more unbearable with his lackadaisical response.

In many of the cases where the female victims in the sexual assaults were involved . The drug ‘rohypnol’ was used in the preponderance of the cases. And rohypnol or more commonly known as roofy’s was placed into the beverage of the victim. In most cases it was alcohol , which in of itself is enough of an inhibitor . But here in lies the dilemma, many of the students who embark upon Spring Break , congregate in the aforementioned cities as well as places such as Cancun , Acapulco to have fun. Well , when fun then becomes the nightmare of sexual assault , an arrest and the violation of a victim. What’s left for many to debate about ? Two families will forever be intertwined by the events that have taken place.

And while there’s no suggestion to believe that Ben Roethlisberger instituted anything of that nature with regard to the allegations. Let us not pretend that things of this nature do not happen. Repeatedly we’ve either read or seen such events being reported. And unfortunately in many cases the police are sometimes unable to press charges because the victim is either unable or unwilling to face her attacker and make a positive identification.

My condemnation of Roethlisberger stems from the asinine decision made by the player. The same player who placed himself in harm’s way in a motorcycle accident , lied to his coach and the organization about the events that took place. Never mind the fact that the player broke the law in the operation of the bike. The operation of the vehicle without a valid license and registration. And people believe that there’s a cause for concern. When your character comes into question because your behavior indicates that your grasp of the truth is to lie. Then it would suggest that the player believes that he can act as he pleases without being at fault. Now comes the real issue if Goodell and Smith can’t even be proactive in dealing with the actions of its members . Then how the hell can the fans or the public at large have faith in the NFL ? Never mind the fact that we’ll tend to see the travesty that’s perpetrated within the justice system when the prosecutors tend to plea down crimes that are the most heinous in nature.

As a bye note Washington Wizards’ guard Gilbert Arenas will only serve 30 days incarcerated at a halfway house after having pled guilty in his gun violation trial . Somewhat of a light sentence don’t you think given the gravity of the charges faced ? Arenas if you remember brought with two loaded and unlicensed weapons to the Wizards’ locker room at the Verizon Center in Washington , DC. An altercation took place between he and teammate Javaris Crittenton and the two brandished their loaded weapons at each other. Arenas’ lawyer Kenneth Wainstein in his deliberations to the District of Columbia Superior Court Judge Robert E. Morin , stated that the player …”is remorseful for his actions and that he’s now turned his life around”. Make of it what you will but Arenas in a recent statement bragged about the fact that he had as recently six months ago, had as many as 500 weapons in is home. Many of them semi automatic and unlicensed. Did I miss something here , concerning Arenas and ‘his demeanor’ ?

But alas, this is the society we live in , where idiot athletes are idolized for all of the wrong reasons ! As Barkley once said ……….”I’m not a role model “. Perhaps someone ought to tell Charles we know that but how the fu_k are we suppose to view them ? When they themselves go out of their way to create the image courtesy of their managers, agents and endorsers to foment an image that’s pristine and above reproach. ? Take note Tiger Woods you’ve done some very bad things and still are doing some bad things . Like you’re still in complete denial Tiger !

NB: Stories reported concerning the rapes that’ve taken place in Daytona Beach, mirrors what is now going on statewide and across the country , at the various spots that students congregate for spring break. Bear that in mind as the stats shown here , are only for this year so far.

  1. Seems you are ready to pronounce Ben guilty…thus far there are only 2 reported incidents of “improper” conduct. The first I really do believe is a “woman scorned” type of thing. Puported emails of her bragging etc…….thus I say there is only one incident…this one in Georgia…even then, he is guilty of being an ass…..no others have come forward accusing him of other sexual impropieities. Look at the women coming out of the woodwork saying Jesse James had sex with them…How many came out and said the Tigger had sex with them.
Now don’t get me wrong, I am of the opinion that Ben is an egostical ASS….But if I had that amt of money and was as popular as he (was) is……Look at how many you would like to do, same as me (if I could).
What cracks me up is the number of girls who go into harm’s way…knowing better, but still……Shit look at that TV program where the girls expose everything but the kitchen sink. Now, I not saying the guys aren’t wrong, but damn! Why do these young nubile females put themselves in harm’s way? It makes no sense………….

    1. al clements

It goes to one’s character and surely you know that having been in law enforcement ? You lie about one thing and then repeat it again and again then who’s to believe you when you say you’re telling the truth ?

What is it that Ben has stated each time consensual sex ? What e-mails were there by McNulty that purported that she bragged about the sex that took place between her and Roethlisberger and do you think she’d still be stupid enough to go ahead with the civil suit if that were true ? Think about it for one minute that evidence alone would destroy the plaintiff’s case. That’s all hearsay if that were the case wouldn’t it have been brought forward by the player’s attorney rather than an employee ?

And who do you know is dumb enough to file a civil suit while that sort of evidence is out there ? C’mon now al , you ought to know better than that ?

Attending a public place such as a bar isn’t endangering one’s self but having a sexual predator such as Roethlisberger in your accompaniment is ! Because to my mind that is what he now is . If he’s not man enough to just simply befriend a female and have a relationship rather than forcing himself on them sexually. Then what sort of a man is he ?

What I do fine idiotic are these young co-eds going boozing themselves up and then thinking that they’re safe ?

Look at the sh_t that has taken place concerning the death of Natalie Holloway in Aruba ? There’s still no one that has been charged in her death but the authorities have a number of suspects. One kid has already bragged that he did it and he’s one of the primary suspects . His father is a magistrate on the island and that’s why f_ck all has been done to the kid so far !

Aruban Divers and Natalee Holloway Remains – What Was Found?

      By Marty Cox

Crime Beat Aruba – John and Patti Muldowney snapped an underwater photo of what they believed might be the remains of missing US teen Natalee Holloway. The couple spent face time on the cable news shows and many were hoping that they were right, and that Natalee’s family could get some closure and peace know that their daughter’s remains had been found.

Divers took a look at the photos and though many believed the picture was nothing more than an illusion, spent time searching where it was believed the picture was taken by the vacationing Pennsylvania couple.

It’s not just the females to blame but also the guys. But to just single out the females and think that just because they wear what they do it gives a guy the right to act the way that they do is somewhat of a sexist attitude. If a girl is accosted and raped it’s a crime. Why is it that the victim that has to be humiliated ?

They’re subjected to that right from the start by law enforcement during the investigation and by the defense attorneys during the trial. That humiliation is merciless and it goes on from the public as well. Let me pose this question to you. If it were your daughter that were the victim of this alleged assault how would you be feeling right now ?

Get back to me once you’ve thought it all through .

      Alan Parkins

  2. Rape is disgusting…as is our so called justice system…It seems the criminals are the only ones to get any…maybe that’s why they call it the CRIMINAL justice system.

As for Ben, I don’t know too much about it. I’d like to believe it isn’t true but who the hell knows. Accountability isn’t exactly at a premium these days.
If he’s guilty, I hope he serves time for his actions.

Gilbert is an arrogant dope but in reality, did anyone get hurt?

    1. BleedLakersPnG

Whether or not anyone got hurt isn’t the point. The law was broken. Arenas brought a loaded and unlicensed weapon into a public arena (Verizon Center) and that’s a fact. He then brandished it at a teammate threatening to shoot him . The asinine thing is that Crittenton was also doing the same thing.

So you tell me are the public meant to feel safe when there are idiots like Arenas out there with guns on their persons ? People seem to forget what took place at Columbine and Virginia Tech ?

This is such a wonderful country where ‘the right to bear arms is seen a right’ but when it comes to death of innocent victims no one seems to give a shit ! The justice system obviously doesn’t and nor do the politicians or the Supreme Court or have successive administrations within the White House .

People are either too damn naive or they simply just don’t care because it doesn’t affect them personally. But in many respects it does because it say something about us as a society as a whole . The NFL the NFLPA just hasn’t done enough when their members simply run amok when it comes to breaking the law. And it’s the same f-king thing with the NBA and the NBPA (players’ union) as well !

As for Roethlisberger all I’m hearing is that he’s simply a jerk ? Well if that ‘jerk’ were to come near my niece or any female relative of mine he’d already have been six feet under ! At 27 or 28 years of age you need to be around college students in order to get laid then there has to be something fu_king wrong with your mental psyche . And that’s the case with Roethlisberger and his drunken a_s !

      Alan Parkins

    2. BleedLakersPnG

Any form of sex crime is disgusting but it goes on in society and our lawmakers it all the more easier for the criminals to recommit those heinous crimes with some of the softest sentencing mandates in the world when it comes to sex crimes . There recidivism rate is amongst the highest in the world here in the US.

Is it any wonder there are so many repeat offenders , especially in the state of California !

Everyone is either glib or apathetic concerning Roethlisberger when it’s clear that the guy is close as to a sexual predator there is without him yet being caught completely in the act.

He has an alcohol problem and he preys on vulnerable or impressionable young females. I can’t put it anymore succinctly than that !

      Alan Parkins

  3. al clements

You , yourself have stated to me the player’s inappropriate behavior but yet you’re now stating that I’m hanging him out to dry ? Damn right I am , I’m not about to be glib and apathetic like most who view this as something meaningless. What has to happen before someone actually sits up and take note ? All I continually hear is the whining bitching and moaning about sh_t like healthcare reform and why there’s no need for it. These are the same god-damn people who don’t even know what the _uck is happening in front of their very god damn eyes because of their inane apathy.

But yet when it comes to a real problem they’ve no answer for it or an idea how to try and solve but they’d either bitch and moan or remain oblivious.

    Alan Parkins

    1. Chris Humpherys

This ain’t Ben gettin’ around but the ongoing problems that neither FDLE or local police departments can get a grip on in the cities mentioned within the state. Even within the city of Tampa itself and the Tampa PD , St Pete PD and Clearwater PD admits those crimes are also on the increase.

Here at the office two of the attorneys in question have cases that they’re about to try as civil suits against two separate defendants.

I don’t make light of any type of sex crime against women or kids. It’s a heinous and an act of a coward !

It’s bad enough that the victim gets victimized once they’re being questioned by the police to begin with. Never mind the fact that they’re still humiliated even further upon the criminal trial of the defendant. I don’t think that there’s anything funny about that at all ! Do you ?

      Alan Parkins

  4. As a father of two daughters I thank you for you vigilance on this very disturbing subject.
My girls are grown women now with families of their own, but my wife and I lived through some very anxious moments when they were teenagers. The expression “but for the grace of God go I” comes to mind. These young ladies and their parents will be in my prayers. Amen

    1. aero

During spring break it comes a nightmare for all concerned. The cities want the students to have fun but not at the expense of these type of crimes being committed repeatedly . In the end it costs all of us one way or another.

The trial , the incarceration of the defendant if found guilty and then there’s trauma to the victim and her family. There’s nothing funny about that whatsoever at all !

      Alan Parkins

    1. Chris Humpherys

It just goes to show what a bunch of kiss asses they are over at ESPN ! Mortensen was suggesting that Goodell is consistent in how he deals with each and every incident concerning the NFL players. In what fu_king universe has that happened since he took over from Tagliabue ? Both were oblivious to the ongoing problems there much like the NFLPA (union) has been . And they’ve failed to address it all adequately.

Now Roethlisberger has failed to show up for the Steelers’ offseason conditioning program. Still think I’m being too harsh on the guy ? The tides and winds of change are now turning against him not just from outside but also from within the Steelers’ organization . He’s becoming too much of an off the field distraction. And many of his teammates are said to be not too pleased with his none appearance.

Now comes word that Santonio Holmes is the defendant in a civil suit filed in the Orange County Court System in Orlando. He allegedly threw a glass at a female in a nightclub in downtown Orlando earlier this month ? Now that’s the sort of behavior the NFL can condone don’t you think ?

      Alan Parkins

    1. Chris Humpherys

That’s not necessarily true they didn’t want him, as he could have still turned up but not for any on field participation and at the same time part of the whole exercise is to meet with the team’s medical staff. So as such , he still could’ve turned up and not participate in any of the other none field activities that were taking place. Excuses abound because of the ongoing embarrassment this has caused the Steelers.

This is what comes of being the ‘face’ of a franchise screwing up and then there’s no one you can turn to on the Steelers’ roster and say that’s the vocal and on field leader of the team.

      Ben-Tomlin

The coach says it’s alright for me to screw as many ‘skanks’ as I can just as long as I don’t get an STD ? What’s an STD is it that a new model being made by Ford ?

Could the player (Ben) be as dumb as he appears to be ? God knows what the press and fans in Pittsburgh must be now thinking of the ‘two’ at this moment in time ?

It’s not Hines Ward or anyone else as of now who you can turn and say that they’re the vocal and on field leader of the Steelers. It makes you kind of wonder who’s running the asylum there in the Steel City ? Cause by my way of thinking Mike Tomlin is now coming across being as soft as a baby’s ass ! If not softer ?

      Alan Parkins

  5. I know where you’re coming from Top..and I agree, I’m just playing devil’s advocate here cause no one really knows what happened in either case……I think Ben is a total jackass…but at least he didn’t rape the young lady in Georgia.
Would he have, had she not “slipped”, I dunno. Or would it have been consensual. Assholes like him and others need something to happen to them. Ben is an arrogant, egotistical fool as far as I’m concerned……How did he become this way or was he a predator in the making?
Last night’s news reported case is going to be given to the DA…still no charges file……

    1. al clements

Unfortunately these kids are enabled from the time they’re in high school as they’re treated as a special case. From thereon in, all the way up into the NFL they’re made a special case of . They’re enabled by their coaches , agents, peers , members of their entourage and everyone else who simply wants to be at their side as a ‘hanger on’.

Things won’t change until either the NFL hierarchy as well as the club owners and coaches actually reprimand the players seriously enough to make a point and for it to act as a deterrent to others.

Also law enforcement has its role to play in this by simply not coddling or fawning over these guys as if they’re idolizing them from afar.

      Alan Parkins

      1. al clements

Wouldn’t this as such add fuel to the fire ? Roethlisberger seen here with members of the Milledgeville PD prior to the incident at the night club where the alleged assault took place. Two of the five officers were off duty the other three were on duty. How can the department then be seen to be impartial in conducting their investigative duties professionally ?

What conclusion would you come to as an law enforcement officer ?

        Alan Parkins

  6. I’m not saying that any of this stuff is right, but it’s Spring Break and it isn’t going to stop happening no matter what.

As for Big Ben, i think alcohol is his major problem. I’d be willing to bet both of the accused women in this situation gave consent in some way another to initiate sexual contact with him, he’s a celebrity and a superstar.

But BECAUSE of both of those facts, he’s also a huge target for extortion.

I don’t know for sure what happened in these two instances, but I can almost guarantee you that there was some lawyer there that knew there was a great deal of money to be made by suing him.

    Meehan

    1. Ravenation

In neither of the two cases was it that way. Roethlisberger forced himself upon both women. In his mind he still thinks it consensual. The moment a woman says “no” …… it means no god-damn it ! What’s so difficult to understand about that ? The first incident in Lk Tahoe the victim’s employers did little to help her even after she reported it to them.

In the second incident the most recent recordings made public showed that Roethlisberger initiated the act even when the victim said ” no” . That’s in her sworn affidavit to the police in Milledgeville and the GBI _ (Georgia Bureau of Investigation). The victim doesn’t want to press charges but that’s not to say that she won’t go after the player with a civil suit.

As to Spring Break this s_it has to stop before the crime of rape turns into multiple homicides. You don’t think that’s what happened to Natalie Holloway in Aruba and this latest victim in Peru ? Think about it ?
